A National Record 70,000 Volunteers Make It A Day On Not A Day Off In 15TH Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service |

A national record 70,000 people of all ages and backgrounds throughout the Philadelphia region volunteered today in some 1,100 service projects in the 15th annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service, according to Todd Bernstein, president of Global Citizen and Founder and director of the Greater Philadelphia King Day of Service. The 2010 Greater Philadelphia King Day of Service is again the largest King Day service event in the nation. Today's turnout adds approximately 5,000 volunteers and 200 projects to last year's record numbers. |

Governor Pat Quinn today joined the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) and the Serve Illinois Commission in encouraging Illinoisans to take part in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Today, people of all ages and backgrounds will come together to improve lives, bridge social barriers, and move our nation closer to the 'Beloved Community' that Dr. King envisioned. |

They’re collecting coats for the needy, food for the hungry, recruiting volunteers for Habitat for Humanity and encouraging young people to share their knowledge with their peers. These service-related projects all are being supported by the Jefferson City MLK Regional Committee in celebration of Martin Luther King’s life and legacy. |

BUFFALO- Mayor Byron W. Brown will host a celebration in commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Friday, January 15, 2010. The celebration will take place at City Hall, main lobby, 65 Niagara Sq. at 12:00pm. The Day of Service will be observed on Monday, January 18, 2010 as requested by President Barack Obama to be recognized as a “Day on Not a Day Off.” |

The Governor’s Office of Community Service (Serve.MT.gov) joins with the Corporation for National and Community Service (nationalservice.gov) in urging Montanans to honor Dr. King’s memory on the January 18th MLK Holiday by volunteering in a local service project, helping a neighbor or donating food. |

Fenty, joined by Serve DC Executive Director Amy Ward, renewed his call to service by asking District residents to join Serve DC-The Mayor’s Office on Volunteerism to commemorate its 8th annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service on Monday, January 18, 2010. City Year youth volunteers and city officials gathered at Ron Brown Middle School to join the mayor in his call for service. |
